Planting
"Plant for a greener and cleaner tomorrow"
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE BENEFITS OF PLANTING A TREE:
- ENERGY CONSERVATION
- INCREASED PROPERTY VALUE
- IMPROVED AIR QUALITY
- AESTHETICS
- STORM WATER REDUCTION
- WILDLIFE HABITAT
Trees are at the root of energy, water and soil conservation
efforts. Properly planted they can provide impressive savings on
energy bills by shading and creating windbreaks. Trees also
clean the air, removing dust and greenhouse gasses such as
carbon dioxide which cause global warming. Planting trees can
even improve property values and make your home and community a
greener, more pleasant place to live.
WHERE TO PLANT: Consider how your tree will look in 10 or 20
years and how it fits into your existing landscape. Give your
tree adequate room to grow both above and below ground. Trees
can be used to create a frame by planting on a diagonal line
outward from the corners of the house, or as background when
planted on the side or back of your home. For energy
conservation and shade purposes, trees should be planted on the
southeast, southwest and west sides of the house.
WHAT TO AVOID:
- Planting tall trees where the branches will tangle with wires, utility lines or house eaves.
- Blocking windows and views or shading garden areas.
- Planting too near concrete drives, walkways or streets where root growth could cause problems.
- Interfering with your neighbors' view or encroaching on their property.
