Pruning
Our urban and suburban areas most common service need is
pruning maintenance. There are various reasons why proper
pruning techniques are used, such as for maintaining safety,
good tree health, structural attraction, and improving
aesthetics. Living Trees and Shrubs practices only techniques as
described by ISA standards.
Reasons for pruning:
- Safety
- Landscape Enhancement
- Construction
- Power lines
- Pedestrian and vehicle
Proper pruning techniques:
Crown
cleaning: Removal of dead, dying, diseased, crowded,
and weakly attached branches. Removal of watersprouts, which are
sometimes referred to as sucker growth.
Crown thinning: Selective removal of branches to increase
light penetration and air movement through the crown. This
technique also reduces weight off the larger limbs and helps
retain the tree's natural shape.
Crown raising: Removes the lower branches from a tree in
order to provide clearance for buildings, vistas, vehicles, and
pedestrians.
Crown reduction: Reduces the height or spread of a tree for
clearance for utility lines, fence lines, and any residential or
commercial building structures.
Crown restoration: Restoration pruning improves the structure
or form of a tree that may have been severely damaged from a
natural or accidental cause.
